Tailwinds

We got a late start yesterday and only traveled to Bakersfield, and then we decided to make the trip to Phoenix in two days, rather than one long one. Turns out that was a good idea.

We passed through four different kinds of weather today:
Fog in Bakersfield but lovely wildflowers
Snow atop Tehachapi Pass
Bright sunshine but huge winds through Barstow
Back to snow in Kingman, AZ

The little iPhone tried to keep up with it all.

The best part of today was the tailwind. As we glided across the California desert, pushed by steady western winds and barely having to use the gas pedal, I was reminded how very many tailwinds we have in our lives. Like our lovely neighbor who offered to bring in our trash cans yesterday after we waited and waited for it to get picked up (and our guy forgot us!). Like our families who gently (usually) push us to become the people we are today. Like our spouses who tackle the jobs we hate to do and thus make our lives so much easier.

Now I understand the Irish blessing even better:

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
